Student Privacy & Data Statement
Plain-English summary for schools and teachers · learnit.net.au · [TO CONFIRM — effective date]
Learn It is built so that students can practise without handing over personal information. Students sign up with a username — no student email address is ever collected — and the product contains no advertising of any kind.
What we collect
DataDetail
NameThe first name a student (or their parent) types in at sign-up, used to greet them and label their progress report.
UsernameStudents log in with a username they choose — not an email address. Internally, a synthetic identifier is generated from the username (it is not a real mailbox and receives no mail).
Recovery email (optional)The only email field on a student account is an optional parent/guardian recovery email, used solely for password help. It can be left blank.
Year levelWhich year's course (Kindergarten–Year 6) the student works in.
Learning progressScores, Bronze/Silver/Gold medals, practice streaks, active days, and time-on-task for assigned work.

That is the whole list. We do not collect student email addresses, phone numbers, photos, addresses, or location data.

Why we collect it

Every item above exists for one reason: to run the learning experience — resuming a student where they left off, awarding medals, showing parents and teachers honest progress, and letting a parent recover a forgotten password. Nothing is collected for marketing or profiling.

Where it lives

Accounts and progress are stored on Google Firebase: sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication and learning data is stored in Cloud Firestore. Passwords are managed entirely by Firebase Authentication — Learn It never sees or stores a password in plaintext.

Who can see a student's data

The student

Sees their own scores, medals and streaks inside the app.

Their parent

A parent links to their child's account with a private link code and can view a full progress report.

Their teacher

Teachers create a class join code; students join by entering the code. The teacher then sees results and time-on-task for work assigned to that class. No student email lists are used.

What we never do
  • No advertising — anywhere in the product, ever.
  • No selling or renting of personal information.
  • No collection of student email addresses.
  • No use of student data for marketing or advertising profiles.
  • No plaintext password storage.
